The benefit of being in school on June 14th
There is one benefit to still being in school on June 14th and that is Flag Day! At our school we LOVE this particular patriotic holiday! The whole school gathers outside for an assembly and I get to see the cutest red white and blue dressed kids in the universe! Who knew ther were SO many stars and stripes dresses?
Hanging with Piggy and Gerald while waiting to go outside! |
Red, white and blue was everywhere! |
Even on the flip flops! |
flag shirts were very popular |
First grade at the whole-school assembly. |
Old Glory |
The kindergartners and first graders sing "You're a Grand Old Flag" and they do a fantastic job! (There are even hand motions....like this one)
Happy Flag Day America!

Summer Book Study
Hey everyone!
I am still chugging along in first grade but only have 14 school days left!
The great thing about those 14 days is that:
1 is field day
1 is a field trip
1 is a personal day
1 is the talent show
...so there is not a lot of teaching time left.
The bad thing about there only being 14 days left is:
21+ reading records
sight word checks
21 x 3 DBQ's to do
required expository task to do
REPORT CARDS!!!!
Wow....I am goingt o be busy!
Looking forward to summer, I wanted to share the book that a group of us will be working through this summer.
Is everyone out there as crazy about the Common Core as I am? I feel like I know very little about it and it is SO important! Has anyone had any experiences with this or any other Common Core Book?

Best Day Ever? Possibly!
Yesterday was a great day. It is hard to say if it was the best day because there have been so many with this group BUT it was right at the top of my list. After I put the walkie-talkie in one pocket, the camera in the other, my cell phone in my back pocket and my whistle around my neck, off we went to release our little toads.
Can you see them on the rock? |
Me and my little ducks on our way! (I took this picture by holding the camera over my head) |
A beautiful day in Western NY! |
Walking and chatting with friends! |
The toads right before release. |
The creek is just ahead at the trees! Loved watching them just run in the grass! |
Waiting creekside |
I had to hop down to the creekside in my bare feet! Mud between my toes! the kids were impressed. |
After I released the tadpoles, the kids followed them down the creek. |
They really were VERY cute! |
Empty bucket :( |
A job well done! |
And of course a goofy pic! |

Sorry!
Sorry for the silence over here at Bee the Change... Unlike the MANY of my more southern bloggie friends, I still have 19 school days left and things are C-R-A-Z-Y!!!!!!!
I promise that I will be back on the air soon! :)

Appreciation
Today one of my former sweethearts (now a 3rd grader) came to visit me. She simply handed me a piece of paper with a note on it. It turned out to be a letter talking about all of the things she loved about her time in my kindergarten class. There were hugs and a tear or 2 from me.
What a nice teacher appreciation day surprise!
Then another friend visited me!!! With another note!!!
The wonderful 3rd grade teacher had her kids write to the teachers in our school that they appreciated.
Just LOVELY!
